ESCALDES-ENGORDANY Escaldes owes its name to the thermal waters, which today still flow at temperatures of over 60º from public springs. Many private houses and hotels enjoy these waters, and it's no surprise that there should be an enormous spa centre called Caldea. Romanesque churches we recommend to visit are Sant Romà dels Vilars and Sant Miquel d'Engolasters. In less than 50 years, from a place totally occupied with farming and animal husbandry, Escaldes-Engordany has become a major commercial and hotel centre. It enjoys a rich cultural life and activities in the parish include the Jazz Festival, of recognized prestige worldwide.
